AI'm making a cake for Mother's Day that's will look like a wicker basket will balls of knitting wool/yarn and other bits. I bought one of the metal extractors that you push and for the life of me I can not get anything to come out!! I'm using fondant so I don't know if maybe it's not for that maybe I have to use gum paste?? What am I doing wrong..it's actually impossible to get any fondant out at all!!

I usually have to mix in a little shortening with the fondant to soften it up a bit.

Yes!

When I first got my metal one, I pretty much cried because I couldn't get anything out of it and it HURT my hands and fingers SOOOO badly!

Once I did the shortening, it was a HUGE relieve.

I lost a piece and had to replace it.  I got the green Makins one from JoAnn's.  It's even better....I don't have to add the shortening anymore!

Not a ton....just enough to make it easily pliable.  Someone suggested a gum-like consistency.
