I purchased, at Hobby Lobby, a box of LorAnn hard candy mix so I could make about 10 jewels for a cake I'm making.  There were no directions on the box for making less than the whole box.  I emailed the LorAnn company and asked if there was a recipe for making less than the whole box, and the reply was no, guess they want you to have to buy more. Anyway, with some trial and error, this is the recipe I came up with:

1/2 cup of premade hard candy mix

1/8 cup of water

*Mix candy mix, water and gel food coloring (if using) and flavoring (if using) together in a 2 cup glass measuring cup.

*Cook for 1 minute in the microwave at 50% power, stir.

*Continue to cook for 2 minutes more at 50% power, stir.

*Continue to cook for 2 to 3 more minutes at 50% power, stir.

*Pour into candy molds that have been lightly greased.  Allow to dry until hardened.  Release from molds.  If there is some candy hanging onto the sides of the candy, I use a nail file to lightly remove it.

This was much easier than trying to make the sugar/corn syrup mixture and I didn't have time to purchase and learn how to use isomalt.
