AProbably a silly question but I'm making a cake for someone (game of thrones) they want the cake covered in white fondant with red blood on top dripping down the cake with a throne on top....ssooo my question is will the red blood wet icing seep into the white fondant when I poor it on top creating colour runs and an ugly looking disaster? I'm new to royal icing only used it on bikkies!
if the royal icing is pouring consistency and really deep in colour then yes the colour will bleed into the white fondant. the problem is that the wet RI will dissolve the fondant and take up the colour.
i have not tried this effect so someone on here might be of more help. but have you thought about using piping jell or perhaps cutting fondant into shape to look like dripping blood
AI live in country australia and supplies are limited unless I order which I don't have time for.... I have thought about rolling fondant but just thought letting a liquid run would have a better effect but yes worries about it seeping/bleeding!
have you thought about RI run outs - allowing them to dry out then applying them to the cake.
AWow great idea! See I knew asking on here would be an awesome idea!! Haha
Any tips on doing that? As I'd like it to run down the sides a bit too.... Baking paper over a cake tin?? Like I said totally new to royal icing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuizKmo9iec this tutorial is on royal icing (English methods) we have so may years experience with royal icing and i wanted to give you a reliable source.
What about red piping gel? I have never had my colored gel run into fondant. Just a thought.
AThanks a bunch sugar florist ! That's a big help! Better get it!! If it fails I'll have to use fondant.... We are very muggy here at the moment :(
AYou can try to dry it out in a really low oven
AOh wow u are full of awesome ideas!! Thank you ssooo much!!
becsboots I live in country W.A. and we can buy red piping gel at coles in a little tube. It is called writing gel or something like that in the baking section. If you have a coles it would be worth looking.
AI will have a look tomorrow but from what I've seen the tubes are small.... I need it to be a puddle of blood running down the cake
Thanks heaps I'll def check it out
AJust a half asleep thought..... I'm wondering whether red candy melts with a bit extra red colour will work.....

AUpdate..... So runout didn't set enough for me to move onto cake
So I made some more royal icing poured it straight onto the cake!! NAILED IT! All the worry over nothing!! Colour did not bleed!!
AThanks for all your help
