someone did a cake with a reindeer sweater pattern on it on this site.  I can't find it but maybe someone else remembers what it was.  She showed how she made her own mold to look like knitting, I think she may have made it using gum past and impressing a sweater into the gum paste then letting it dry.

AThis cake looks to me like they made that crochet-looking piece by braiding strands of fondant, laying them side by side on a rolled-out piece of fondant and trimming the edges. Very cool.

If you want a crochet look (rather than woven or knitted), Karen Davies crochet molds might help you.

AI had the same thought as As you Wish, braided strands, lined up on a very thin sheet of fondant, and cut on the edges.

Is it me or does it seem strange to have two crochet hooks for one project? Crochet is done with one hook, unlike knitting which uses 2 needles. I looked at the link Shanter posted and I had no idea there were molds like that! That's so cool!

It makes sense that you are confused as it is not crochet, real crochet would have loops.  It's very nice looking, it's a great cake, but it looks like they braided or wove the fondant threads to make the 'fabric'.  Very Pretty!!

The two knitting needles were coverted to crochet hooks by just bending over the ends, probably good enough for a cake as beautiful as this, (and you do only need one crochet hook).
