Would like to make Wilton's candy mold monkeys. I do not feel confidant with doing the different colors in the mold. Can I make them in chocolate and once hardened and out of the mold paint the other colors directly onto them for the leaves, banana, etc.

AYes but it won't look as neat and the colours will be duller/darker as they will be thinner

AIt's really not hard to do the different colors in the molds. You can use a piping bag or a paintbrush or a toothpick for tiny details. Mercken's sells bags of mixed colors so you don't have to buy a ton of each color if you only need accents. Give it a try! You might surprise yourself. The finish will be much neater if you do it in-mold too.
