im making a chocolate malteser cake for my mom

and in the frosting recipe it say to use 120g malt powder

the owner of the recipe had used malteser drink powder

but here in Norway we don't have malt powder or malteser drink powder, so what can i use???

there is no other chocolate in the recipe so im guessing the powder is supposed to make the frosting taste like chocolate..

can i maybe use instant cocoa?? or regular cocoa or i don't know smash up a bunch of maltseres to make kind of a powder??

please help me, i need to know by friday or else i have to find something else to make.. or at least a different frosting...

Malt powder is not chocolate flavoured at all, it is made from barley adds a sweetness to your frosting. Sorry I'm not sure what you could use as a substitute.

Nesquick takes me back, we used to have that when I was a child.  I don't think Nesquick would be a suitable substitute as malted powder has a deep, rich flavour, and if my memory is correct Nesquick is a light sweet mild chocolate flavour.  Having said that why don't you try making a small 1/2 batch of the frosting and test it.  If you can't get malt powder what have you got to lose by trying it, it won't be the original recipe but it might taste good.

If your city is big enough to have shops with supplies for brewing beer at home, they will sell malt powder. If you have any restaurant that makes malted milk shakes from scratch, you might be able to talk them into selling or just giving you some. Some places use a liquified version of malt which might not work as well in your recipe.

Good luck!

On a side note, I just bought this book, the song and 3 stuffed animal foxes for my daughter's cute little child.  Love those guys! Thank you, Norway!
