Hi!  We are mostly cakes/cupcakes, but have been dipping our feet into the iced cookie field....

Question...Is piping a baby in a bee costume design (kind of like the one pictured below)

on a sugar cookie possible?  Keep in mind that we are NOT EXPERTS at all!!!  We just are unsure of even attempting...

AThat's a fondant, gumpaste or modeling chocolate baby made with a mold.

I mean do a flat design to resemble this on a cookie.  This is the topper for the cake that goes with the cookies...

AOh! My mistake. :) I am certain you could make a cookie with this design, though it would be a bit flat rather than 3D. You would just need to sketch out a design that can be broken into parts and then use a thicker flood icing to flood one part, let it dry, then go back and flood the other parts in one by one. It would certainly take some playing around to figure it out!.

AI don't have one either, so I freehand all my cookies. But I want to try this: http://cakecentral.com/t/759026/diy-kopykake-going-to-try-it-out

That looks like it would be a very complex design, and difficult to execute, especially if you are not experienced with cookies.   I am pretty experienced and I don't think I would tackle it.  What about just doing bumblebee cookies and yellow daisy cookies?  Or a square or round with a daisy and a bee on it?  They would still be cute and tie in with the theme, but they would be more manageable.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Cool!  It's like a light box.  I've made one of those in college.  I was an Elementary Education person and we had to make one to trace song cards and things...

My husband is working on making a DIY one with an iphone and a phone projector.  I'll let you know how it goes!!!

AThere's an iPad app called Camera-Lucida that already allows you to project an image over something. I use it for my cookies.

I have tried Camera Lucinda and I am absolutely abysmal at it! I cannot figure out how people use it so successfully. When I'm really wanting to get uniformity, I will draw out what I want on paper to scale, cut the individual pieces and then use that as a template to draw on my cookie with a food safe marker, but most of the time I just give up and freehand. Lol

When people ask me to do stuff like that I just simplify it as much as possible or sometimes ask for plates, invites or even napkins that they will have at their party so I can still match it without driving myself crazy

As Stacy and Clinton used to say on 'What not to Wear' all the time.........

""things don't have to always match, they just have to go."""

Thanks everyone!!!  I think that we are going to "encourage" another design...We just don't think we can pull it off.  Maybe in time with more practice, but right now we are leaning toward bee hive cookies with a small bee on them...let you know!!!

Sounds like a good plan.  My feeling is that it's better to do a great job on a simpler cookie, than a mediocre job on a complex cookie.  Good luck!
