Hello to everybody,

I am new to this site and I am learning a lot. Long story short being baking for friends and acquaintances since I lost my job. I've tried several vanilla cake receipies and I just can never get my cake to rise fluffy.....im so frustrated its always dense and like doguhie in the middle so heavy ugh I dont believe in box cakes but its the only one that will come out right if I do it that way.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Every one here seems to be very knowledgeable. I am  frustrated   my chocolate cake comes out great and like I said I have tried a few different receipies for vanilla including 1and 3/4 four with 1/4 cornstrach the first time was ok 2 nd try I thought I got it, but 3rd and more the cakes just come out like gummy or unevenly cooked!

are you sure you are not over mixing and developing the gluten too much? the cake sounds like it is struggling to rise. double check the baking powder measurement also

I would check the freshness of your baking powder and the temp of your oven.
