not about cakes --about the name of a cycling business--

but it's interesting how this is turning out--i started to post about this yesterday

http://blogs.calgaryherald.com/2013/12/07/war-veteran-forced-to-change-bike-shops-name-after-threat-from-u-s-bike-giant-specialized/

but changed my mind--now it looks like a resolution is in sight--but we'll see

http://www.bicycleretailer.com/north-america/2013/12/09/asi-says-calgary-bike-shop-can-use-roubaix-name#.UqdJJvRDvQT

and it's gone international too...so...could be tied up in courts forever i guess if peeps/lawyers get all wadded up about it--

the outpouring has helped make this guys shop though--for now anyhow...

whoa--this is really twisted--

Quote:

According to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, "ASI says it owns the worldwide rights to the Roubaix trademark ... and has licensed it to Specialized since 2003." And the company's International CEO Pan Cunnane says he is happy for Dan Richter to use the name for his bicycle shop.

so specialized the copyright holder who is suing the small shop is said to be leasing the name in question from someone else, a company called asi--holy moley

not just that asi holds another copyright to the same name (and got it previous to specialized's getting theirs) but that asi leases the name to specialized--dayum

i'd reckon specialized oughta get some new lawyers if they can't remember that they indeed leased the name from asi only 11 years ago--

can of crawly worms
