AHi there I'm presently making a shaped no 4 Spider-Man cake.the base is blue and the top surface is red.the joint where the blue meets the red I need to pipe like a black seam around the entire cake.the line has to be straight .... how do I achieve this

you could use a string of black licorice or just do some practicing and pipe it--

 

you can wrap a clean fresh cash register tape around the cake and pipe using that as a guide--depending on the type of icing you're using--

AThanks..... the liquorice sounds like an idea..... why is lemon juice added to icing

lemon juice? for flavor and it's added to royal icing sometimes--not sure exactly what you mean--
