I had decided to switch from Satin Ice to Fondarific. Not sure why so many people like fonarific, I am having nothing but trouble with it. I am not sure what I will buy, I don't have much of a choice. It is way too soft to do anything with, even after leaving it rest for a while it stretches unbelievably.  just really frustrated. any suggestions would be wonderful. thanks so much....

Mix the 2 together. You will have the familiarity of the Satin Ice, and the Fondarific will make it taste less like Play-do.

that sounds like a good idea, would it be a 50/50 mix, or whatever feels good?

Do a search for "Fondarific Sucks"…hahaha! It was my post about it. There are a lot of great suggestions on how to use it. I think the taste is great, but I just can't work with it well. Bravo to those who are able to work with it and make their cakes gorgeous!!!

Start with a 50/50 mix and as you get used to it, slowly reduce the nasty stuff until you're using just Fondrific.

Elcee is the one who posted a LOT of information on the Fondarific Sucks thread I started a few months ago. She has some great advice on how to get used to it and her cakes are GORGEOUS!!!!!!

I had my first experience with it this week and won't be going back to use it again. Had a small sample from the cake shop & thought I'd use it for some lettering for my nephews cake - but it stretched and didn't firm up so had to scratch them all. The above suggestions of mixing with Satin Ice sounds good though.

AYeah, not sure what i am going to do with it. It was so expensive and i still have 90% of the bucket.

I don't think it's recommended for decorations…just for covering cakes. I had no clue and tried to make strips of it to put on a cake and they just kept stretching out of shape. It was a very sad looking cake. I didn't even take pictures. haha!!1

 

I think if you want to use it for decorations, you may need to do a 60/40 mixture of gumpaste to fondant or even higher ratio of gumpaste to fondant. That way you can use it up and it won't go to waste. 

 

I applaud the bakers who can use it well. I just don't have patience!

Thanks for the tips mfeagan, I didn't know that it was just for covering cakes and not for decorations. That makes more sense now :)

AWow even I started a thread about how much I hate fondarific!! I think that maybe they are starting to go down hill, many people are complaining now. I've still got mine left over too, I just use it to make accents and things like that-don't really like handling it too much.
