I want to make an apple cinnamon, cornucopia shaped cake. I found a decent amount of good recipes but I'm not sure which ones would hold up best. I'm very new at this and am still learning which kind of cakes work best for carving. Can anyone give me a bit of advice on this?

AI'm not sure what finished look you are going for, but you could make a Kransekake and then you wouldn't need to carve it. Sometimes Kransekake are formed into a horn shape instead of a stacked tower. Not sure you would be able to incorporate the apple flavour into the Kransekake itself though. The one in the picture is very elaborate, but you get the idea: http://journalistasfood.tumblr.com/
