AHi, I got an airbrush kit a while back and haven't used it yet, I'm a bit nerves (and excited ) so any tips would be great appreciated. I'm doing a suitcase cake and want to use it on that, do I just leave my fondant white and add all my details or do I colour it a light shade of brown ?? To create a worn look on the suitcase do I use a darker colour brown or do I just add more layers of colour ???? I really haven't a clue  Thanks Andie
I would color your base fondant brown and use the airbrush for accent shading. It's super easy and fun. Use some scrap fondant to test first. I would use a darker shade but again, just roll out some scraps and test to see what you like. Good luck! I't'll be great!
AThanks have just crumb coated the cake and have coloured the icing so will cover it and tonight and will spray tomorrow, thanks for taking the time to reply x
AWear a mask, and make a cardboard alcove so the colour is a bit more contained. I start off with a lighter colour then go darker as the accents. Don't get too close as the colour will run.
AI love my airbrush but it sure is messy...it will get color all over even with an alcove...just be prepared to mop :) Also to get a worn out leather look I dye my fondant and the take a crimpled paper towel and apply color directly to it in blotches and then blend...thats how I made the spellbook in my pictures
I've recently obtained an airbrush and also have yet to use it. I am intimidated by the prospect of the mess in my cake room. I am wanting to make an airbrush box, similar to the one Earlene's husband made for her. Unfortunately I misplaced the instructions until just recently and now the cold, wet weather is making working outside impossible. I don't have a workshop so I guess I'll wait for spring.
If you are interested in making one for yourself, here is the link. Her instructions for the box are located near the bottom of the page. I think it looks really cool and I am eager to try to do it myself.
AHi thanks to ye all for the advise, I airbrushed my suitcase cake last night ( I was just itching to do it ). Wish I had seen your comments about the alcove, haha still cleaning up, but I don't mind I just loved it !!! It really is just brilliant it completely changes the cake. I forgot to take a before picture (in my inpatients to get started ) Thanks for the tip about the leather look will definitely try that cakeballer85, the book of spells is fantastic, might try one soon . But next time I will have an alcove  Thanks again everyone Andie :D
