Athank you for the tips. Also do you know if ice cube silicone molds would work for isomalt as they seem to be cheaper than the labeled fondant, gum paste sugar molds?

You can also make jewels out of gelatin, Tammy Utley, did a demo   in Reno on how to make them, they have a lot of plastic molds available for them.

AGelatin??? Hmm interesting. Thanks for that tip. I kinda want to do the isomalt but a question for anyone who has used isomalt before.... it is not cost effective for me to buy the different colored packs of the CakePlay Isomalt Sticks to get a varity of colors so, can you color the hardened isomalt "gem" . I read to use silver luster dust to get a shiny effect but can you use anything else to give them color?

You can mix food color into the melted isomalt.

seriously???? yay!!! i didn't think you could.  I haven't worked with isomalt before I thought that would ruin the melted isomalt and cause it not to harden or something horrible like that. also was worried i would have to purchase 7 different luster dust colors to get a variety or colors. Thanks
