AHello, I'm making a boob cake with a bra on it for a friends "dirty 30"

I made a practice cake and I could not get the buttercream icing as smooth as I would have liked using a angled spatula and hot water. I've seen a lot about the papertowel method and I think I'll try that next but is it still the same idea on a round cake? (it's 3d like a soccer ball, I baked the cake in bowls) also, what is the best buttercream recipe to use for smoothing it out on a cake? I'm pretty new at baking and decorating cakes. Thanks!

Also, I don't want to use fondant on the cake, we don't like the taste and I don't have a lot of experience covering an entire cake with it. Just cutting out pieces of fondant for decorating.

AMake sure you're using an American buttercream if you're doing the paper towel method, it doesn't work on the meringues.

Look at the recipes for butter cream in the recipe section, there are a lot to choose from!
