AMaking mccormicks red velvet recipe. Used 1/2 tsp baking soda instead of 1 tsp. The cake seems to have risen ok but I want to know if this will effect the taste of the cake. Trying to avoid having to bake an extra 4 cakes and I can't afford to sample any of it.

Please advise! Thanks.

I don't think the taste of your cake will be effected. Although, how much it rises or doesn't rise may be effected. Baking soda combined with vinegar is typically the leaveners in red velvet recipes. Baking soda is also a neutralizer so it is typically included in recipes with any acidic ingredients (ex. buttermilk).
