AI'm somewhat new to the cake business so I'm not sure how some things work. Eg: If I have an order for a cupcake wedding cake do I provide the cupcake stand or does the bride? Do I need to set it up or do the people who work at the venue do that. I'm so confused and stressed.this is my first big order
I recommend you get your business procedures, structure and pricing all together before you start taking orders. Especially a wedding order. A wedding order is not the time to wonder how you are going to handle set up & rental. I charge for equipment rental & set up.
AIts entirely up to you! Its far more professional to provide the stand and setup but you have to include your delivery time, fuel and setup time in their cost and so some people chose to allow the bride to sort those things out if such services aren't required.
If you go for providing stands you will need to take a deposit for it (more than the cost of replacing the stand) in case its not returned, you give them some time- a week or two- to return it else no refunded deposit! You dont want to be in the situation where you need it but dont have it to hand!
You could always approach the caterer, they often have stands and will hire them out to the bride as part of the catering package.
Hope that helps!
Best of luck with your first big order! :-)
I would think it would depend on what you agreed to when you met with the client and what is in your contract? Have you met with them yet? If I were the bride I would expect that I could pay a rental fee and the stand would be provided. As for the set up, personally, I would want to set everything up myself so I know it is done correctly and I can take a picture when it is complete showing it was delivered as agreed. You should also have the bride designate someone to sign off on it saying it was ok before you leave. Just my thoughts.
AI think it is best if you provide the stand and set everything up, but as others have said, be sure to charge for time and a deposit. The first wedding I did the bride said she would provide a stand; she even showed me a picture of it to make sure it would work. When I went to venue to set up there was no stand to be found! The cake was placed unceremoniously on the table. (It was on an adequate board, but it didn't look very impressive.) First and last time for me. Now they either pay for rental of a stand from me, or they get the stand to me beforehand. I will never again show up at a venue expecting a stand to be waiting for me.
AThanks everyone for your replies. Just wanted to make sure what I had in mind was correct. They have their original wedding cake. What I'm making is a little grooms cake of 6" and 75 mini cupcakes for the sweet table. Just wanted to know if I would put this on a cake stand or if it's just directly on the table.
