I planned on making my own gumpaste so went to Michael's to get some Tylose only they didn't have any. Got the Gum-Tex instead. Also picked up some glucose, which I now wonder why when it is only corn syrup?
I have been looking on here to see how to make it and many don't use the Wilton recipe on the back of the Gum-Tex, they just add it to their fondant.
Will be making very delicate flowers -carnation/peony type. If I just add a little Gum-Tex to the MMF that I make myself, will this equal gumpaste? The kind you can roll till it is almost transparent or will I need to make just a batch of the Wilton recipe gumpaste?
This will be for a teenage party and I am sure those kids will be eating the flowers - they really love eating the shoes I make...ewwww.
Which way should I make it....never made my own before, just bought the Wilton pre-made.
So clueless....help TIA
Hello whiteangel, if you are going to be making delicate flowers, your best bet would be to use the already made Wilton gumpaste. If you were to use your combination of MMF and Gum tex, you won't be able to roll it out as thinly as a pure gumpaste. MMF mixed with Gum Tex makes sort of a mock gumpaste. Also, gumpaste dries very hard, I mean hard like a rock. Lol so I would let the teenagers know before they eat your flowers. :)
Hope I helped. Rebeca
Yes thank you! Sometimes just getting a little feed back gives one a little more confidence!
I went ahead and made some gumpaste using the recipe on the back of the Gum-Tex. Stinks like vinegar, yuck. I might add a little bit of fondant to a sample and see if I can get it as delicate as I would like it to look. Can't use it for a bit as I only made the GP today and tomorrow have to make the MMF - that will be 4 batches worth. So it will be Friday before I can try it out. I will let you know which works the best. These should be almost translucent.
AI make flowers with gum tex and fondant. You have to experiment a little with amounts of each and consistency. It works in a pinch, but its not as stretchy as traditional gum paste.
I agree with the premade witlon g/p. I also make nick lodge. These two are my favorites.
Thank you all for your help!!
