Hi, A little help with royal icing please ! I need to make hello kitty figures and prop them up on a cake frosted with butter cream..

Will the royal icing "dissolve" when kept on the buttercream frosting?.. or atleast how long would it be steady ?

Also, how long would dried royal icing shapes/figures last without discoloring?

Thanks for your help in advance !

AThe grease from the buttercream will eventually break down the royal icing and discolor it. You won't find an exact timeline for it.

I find royal holds colors well. Purple fades the fastet. Just keep it out of direct sunlight and the color shold keep for months.

What's the timeline for the cake? If you have to deliver it a day ahead or something, I'd try using gumpaste instead of royal.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice... I really haven't tried gumpaste yet and not sure if it would be a good idea to do it out without a trial run...

Anyway, i need to set up the figures on the cake for about 2-3 hours till the cake cutting time... Would that be too long for the royal icing to last?..

Thanks for your tip on storing the royal icing without discoloring!

Hope to hear again !

A2-3 hours should be no problem. Good luck! Post pics when you're done!
