Several months ago I received a nasty email from the customer accusing me of duping and cheating her by selling her a $350 dummy cake rather than a real cake.

She hadn't been at the house at the time of delivery and the cake was a gift. I left it with the two guys at the house. When one of them asked me how to cut it, I made a joke and said something like, you're not really going to cut it, are you? Bad joke, I know... Anyway,  I then proceeded to tell them how to cut the cake, in detail.

According to her, when it came time to sing happy birthday, she was informed by her two friends that it was just a dummy cake. So they didn't cut into the cake at all. At first I was certain that she was making the whole thing up, but after several back and forth exchanges, I think I believe her.

Thoughts? Anyone else run into this problem?

So she never even tried to cut the cake? Sounds like a couple of guys were hoping to be cake hogs.

*IF* it was/is a dummy cake make her return the cake to you then you can prove it isn't.

What do you mean she is ......"accusing me of duping and cheating her"....... what is she demanding?

AMy thoughts? The human gene pool just suffered a hit and the lower limits of the IQ scale just hit a record low. That.Is.All.

On second thought, maybe they were just returning the favor and pulling your legs. There's gotta be hope for the human race.

sounds like she isn't the brightest crayon in the box. Sorry that's not your fault.

Did you ask her what happened to the cake?

that would be great if that is what she was trying to do!!  maybe she's just returning the joke?  because seriously, if not...I do not believe anyone could be that dim.

Btw, that was a joke. I can't imagine anyone ever having this problem. I almost can't believe I had this problem.

Since their story was based in truth, in a way, I wonder if this whole fiasco could have had something to do with other refreshments served at the party. It sounded like the cake "cutting" was late in the evening.

Did you post about this when it happened? I am sure I have read about it before. I *hope* you did, otherwise that means there are two people that stupid out there!

Honestly, I would laugh at her. Once I was done laughing, explain that it was indeed a real cake, and a quick slice into it would have proven that. Then I would resume laughter.

Depending on my mood, I might try to hide the laughing from her... maybe.

I mean she literally used those words saying that I had  "cheated and duped" her into buying a fake cake and asked for her money back. After my response, she backed off and attacked me on my lack of customer service. I have to admit she was right about that... I was positive she was just trying to get free cake at first.

I know, right?!  I did mention it in another thread a while back, but decided this deserved a thread of its own. And I'm more comfortable posting about it since some time has passed.

My guess is she made a call and they quickly determined it was really cake. She seemed a little embarrassed in the end, but it's hard to be sure as she was still so irate.
