AHi, I have a customer who would like a joint birthday cake 2 tier for her mum and dad, her mum loves flowers and her dad is an artist ( favourite artist is Caravaggio ) I'm thinking of doing a painted flower cake with a fondant artist on the side( either stood or sat) whilst painting the actual cake. Anyone have any ideas or how I could incorporate the Caravaggio theme( its quite dark) . She'd also like "50" on the cake somewhere(!) Thanks Gemma

AWow what a theme! And a challenge. Maybe paint like his stilllife of flowers and fruit http://blogbloom.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/caravaggio-flowers-and-fruits.jpg Like that. Maybe even on black or very dark fondant so you don't have to use as much paint. With also some scuplted fondandt and gumpaste fruit and flowers. Idk

In my head I'm picturing one side of the cake (or one tier) being pastel or at least less-than-saturated colors for painted flowers, maybe a few pieces of fruit (pear, apple, green grapes).

Caravaggio painted lots of people, but not exclusively. Look at the pictures with tables showing lots of fruit. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1056&bih=653&q=painted+cake&oq=painted+cake&gs_l=img.3..0l5j0i5l5.2793.5905.0.6060.12.11.0.1.1.0.113.1085.7j4.11.0....0...1ac.1.22.img..0.12.1088.SwIPMqwYClc#hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=caravaggio&oq=caravaggio&gs_l=img.3..0l10.92976.92976.5.93342.1.1.0.0.0.0.121.121.0j1.1.0....0...1c.1.22.img..0.1.121.OaHRroGZh3I&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.49784469,d.cGE&fp=b21269a2c01226b6&biw=1056&bih=653&imgdii=_

You could do the other side of the cake (or the other tier) in the darker colors (dark green, orange, saturated red, purple) for flowers and fruit.
