Seems to be a trend, to ditch "people shaped" cake toppers for clear acrylic hearts or squares with the couples names and wedding date engraved on them.  Ok so what's the big deal?  They don't come with stands so there's no way to put them on top of the cake so that they're secure.  During the humid days of summer, fondant is very sticky - if the heart (which is placed on its side) falls over and does a face plant into the sticky fondant, you'd never get it unstuck without ruining the surface of the cake.  Also if the table is bumped - over it goes because it's only a half inch wide..  So I now keep a small square mirror in my emergency cake bag - covered with adhesive backed shelf paper and also have some glue dots in my bag.  I stick the acrylic topper to the covered mirror - the glue dots are so sticky they'll remove your fingerprints.  Just wanted you to know in case this happens to you too.
