Beet Juice In Red Velvet

I have read that the original recipe for Red Velvet cake contained the juice from canned beets as the red color.


Has anyone used it and does it work and not add beet taste?

I have totally tried it and it was DISGUSTING!!!!!  I actually like beets, but not in red velvet cake.  :P
