AHi all, I did a search already and didn't get much info so please do help if you have any more info.

I'm wondering what pricing assistant you use? Obviously cake boss being $150 worth ought to be the best, I hope. But has anyone used a few or used the others and can tell me about it or direct me to their review?

I downloaded cakeulator. I've found it a bit confusing to set up, getting there. The quotes are pretty plain and boring so I doubt I'd use them. But the pricing part is more important:

I read people saying that the quotes can be way off, and that the profit margin section Is dodgy, I've also heard this has been rectified, can anyone confirm this? I'm still trying to work it out so I haven't been Able to check.

I've also heard of tiered caker, which I didn't download coz it cost a little more so thought I'd start with the cheapie. Is it any good? Better than cakeulator? Up to scratch with cake boss?

Finally, if you have cake boss, was it worth the money? Have you personally compared it to the cheapies?

Thanks very much in advance!

My students prefer Excel. It's a lot like Cake Boss but without fancy icons; and a lot cheaper.

If the tieredCaker your talking about is an app for smartphones I have it and really like it.  I think it cost about $8. It's nothing like cake boss it just a very simple tool.  You type in the number of servings you want and it tells you the size and tier options you have. For example if you want to serve 50 people you type it in and it shows you that a 1 tier 11" round serves 46, or 2 tier 10" and a 6" serves 50 etc. You set your price per/serving and it will give you a total price.  You can also quickly look up number of servings for all round and square sizes up to 16".  It also shows Hexagon, heart, oval and petal shapes.

Does it also show you mixed shape options? Like a square on top of a round, etc.?

TIA!

If you want to mix shapes you have to do it "manually" but it will still give you the total servings

Yes, as KLan30 mentioned, mixed shapes can be calculated manually in the Stacker section of TieredCaker. My husband Chris is the developer and he is currently working on adding the functionality to the calculator so that it can calculate mixed shaped cakes automatically. He hopes to have it done in the next update but it seems to be a tough problem so he will continue working on it until he gets it right!

Thanks for the info.

I am planning on buying it, but currently I am the only one in my family without an iphone, ipad, or ipod touch. I have all android devices. I think we have an old iPod touch that the kids no longer use, but I'm not sure what version it is. I don't think my kids will take kindly to me stealing their newer devices and don't forsee receiving an iDevice as a gift. :(

Oh man, that's not fair! Of course, I have kids too so I totally get that! They always come first, even when it stuff that we really want or need. My 13 year old has a laptop but I don't. I do have an iPad though and I use it every single day so I feel pretty lucky to have it.

AI used CakeBoss to figure out what my prices should be, then I use Calculated Cakes to figure out what size cakes I need to use, and give quotes, then I use Cake boss again to make and order form and invoice my clients, and keep track of expenses.

I also use My Stuff 2 on iphone to keep track of all the BS I buy, lol.

Well, my husband wiped the old iPod touch for me and I tried to buy the app, but it is a generation 2, so it won't let me download. My son has a generation 4 that my husband says I should steal since he got an iPad mini for his birthday, but I'm not sure. Maybe I should sell my Motorolla Xoom and get an iPad. I hate to though because I like it and I have soooooo many apps on it. What to do....what to do!

FOr the Android platform there are 3 Cake Decorating pricing/sizing applications.  Cake Decorating Calculator is one of them.
