I made my first checkerboard cake with the Wilton insert. The vanilla cake rose up and the chocolate cake is drooping! Can I trim the tops of the cakes or will that ruin the effect? If I frost them the way they are there will be uneven frosting between the layers.
Thank You! I trimmed it and it turned out OK. Next time I would use the same cake recipe with food coloring to ensure they are the same height and consistency when baked. Also, I think I will cut it instead of using the Wilton insert.
