I live in a tiny little podunk town in Mississippi and my husband went to the little mom and pop grocery store and saw a hand written flyer taped to the door : Mary's Cakes  Birthday cakes: $20, Pies: $15

I am so tempted to order one just to see what on earth she provides for that price!! The town is small but we have a hospital and a lot of medical employees, so it's not like people here are poor and can't pay a decent price for something! Sheesh!

So order one.  Could be her way of building her client list.  Maybe its her starting price and then when you ask for xyz on top she tells you it will cost you XX more. lol

You don't say what size she's offering for $20.00.  Maybe its a plain 6" cake.

Yup, same as auntginn. Order a cake and pie - see and taste what she's selling. Do you have a business, too?

It can't be too much for only twenty dollars!!! Must be a pretty small cake. With handwritten flier, she may or may not have a business license!!! That could be a problem if she is not legitimate!!!

No, I do cakes for family and friends, just because I like too. They'll usually reimburse me for my costs, but it's purely a hobby that I enjoy. If I did charge, it would certainly be a lot more than that!

I'd be willing to bet the farm she doesn't have a license!
