Jason, do they ship? they say no location in my area? if so what is the cost with shipping, (presuming your get yours shipped).

I buy mine at globalsugarart.com - they are located in up-state New York, and they do deliver!

AWe would pick up the Sweetex from our local BakeMark location, I doubt they would deliver unless you had a large wholesale order.

thanks Jason, yes currently I use Super Hymo Shortening instead of Sweetex because there is no local carrier anywhere near me. I pay 51 plus 23 shipping from Stovercompany.com

 

They are excellent and teh Hymo is awesome.

My local GFS didn't have Sweetex, but they ordered the Wesson hi-ratio brand and it works the same. I used Sweetex before which I bought at Restaurant Depot, but they were out. GFS got the Wesson brand in the next day and I couldn't wait on RD.

Read somewhere that this is actually another brand (Alpine or some Bakemark brand) not Sweetex.

If it all tastes the same I'm not much concerned on the brand. There is a little cake shop near me that sells it, but I was wondering if there was any way I might could get it less expensive. Right now I'm paying $1 a cup for it, plus sales tax.

I found a cake supply store that will order a 50# box for me, and it comes to a little less than $2/lb.  The company will only ship it to her when the temperatures are within a certain range, though, so I have to take that into consideration.

All shortenings are not created equal which is why bakers have their favorites. If you're not too concerned about the performance then I think you'd be fine with the most accessible one you can afford. Recently a friend had me try Wesson vs Sweetex and I noticed a HUGE difference between it and Sweetex. Sharon Zambito prefers Sweetex for her BC but other cakers do fine with other brands of hi-ratio in her recipe. I suppose my post would be more relevant then to cakers who specifically want one brand (in this case Sweetex) over another.

I get it from GFS, but they do not carry it in stock. They had to order it for me. It was about $80 and they didn't charge me shipping since it is coming directly to the store. The only bad thing was that it takes 2-4 weeks to get it. I knew that going in, so I placed my order before I ran out of what I have. I previously ordered it online and it cost about $135 shipped to my shop. I wish I had asked at GFS before I paid that much.

I purchased a 50# box from FoodServiceDirect.com, delivery was no problem, just over $100 including shipping to Ohio.  BUT - the problem is, I made my first batch of icing with it yesterday - and I was sorely disappointed!  The Crisco "greasy mouth feel" was horribly prevalent, so bad that I had to trash the batch because I wouldn't compromise the quality of my product that way.  I double checked, thinking that maybe I had ordered something that wasn't high-ratio, but it is...

 

Has anyone else had trouble with greasiness with Sweetex?  I have used Alpine and Kitchen Crafts (both regular and the "no trans fat" variety) and never had that problem.  Help!  I have 48 pounds that I don't know what to do with!!  thumbsdown.gif

Did you buy the "Z" kind (no trans fats) or the regular Sweetex? I read on here sometime a while back not to buy the zero trans fat version. I use the regular kind and it has no greasy feel at all.

AI'm currently working my way thru a box of Sweetex, having used Alpine previously. I haven't experienced any difference. I do use less hi ratio that what a bc recipe calls for . Unless the recipe wad formulated for BE shortening.

Hi, I live in Charlotte, NC an there is a store 'Restaurant Depot" that sells Sweetex in a 50 LB box. They said that is all they have - no smaller boxes   It costs about $60  I forgot exactly but can be frozen although will last about a year if not frozen.

 

You have to have a  restaurant card to shop there thugh.   If anyone lives in Charlotte, lt me kno and I can go there with you if you wish to purchase this.  Have a great day
