Evening everyone!

I am making a cake for a dear friend's 40th in a week or two and she is obsessed with Anne of Green Gables.
I would love to make a cake for her that references the books without being, for example, a cake that is just the book. Something modern and elegant.

I love the idea of putting one of those mini buntings on top of the cake but I am stumped as to what to do for the actual cake.

Any and all help greatly appreciated!

cheers,

Amelia

I had a similar issue with a "Pride & Prejudice" Cake and so I came up with this. I did a book but had a few different elements and objects from the book as little pieces around the cake, like a piece of music, letter, pen, and ink, and brooch. The family loved the cake and I was just happy I didn't have to read through the book again to get the idea :) Haha

I did an Anne cake last year, for a book club's year end meeting.

I did 2 tiers, just in white with green swiss dots. (colours of green gables). Very thin red braided fondant borders, a little isomalt bottle of 'raspberry cordial', with two glasses, one of them tipped over as the topper.

Instead of the usual plaque I made a gumpaste 'broken slate', and made the writing look like chalk.

I wanted to do an open copy of the Lady of Shallot on the edge of a tier, but it looked too busy, sadly. I almost never take pictures of my cakes, so forgetful, but I will see if the club posted it on their FB page.

Oh that's lovely! What a gorgeous cake.

I ended up doing a ckae that was more about the woman in question and placed a little pile of books on top that included Anne of Green Gables. :)

Scrumdiddlycakes, I would love to see your cake. Sounds wonderful - if you find a photo, point me in the right direction. :)

Wow! One of my all time favorite books and you did a great job capturing it.

I LOVE Anne of Green Gables! I've been wanting to do a gingerbread house this year for Christmas and you gave me my inspiration! I think I'll make a gingerbread house modeled from Green Gables!

P.S. Love the P&P cake!

This was what I ended up making everyone. She is a seamstress, a professional children's photographer and a book lover - plus she loves 70s fabric (hence the colours). You may not be able to see, but one of the books on top is Anne of Green Gables (the other two are one she wrote and another of her favourites).

Thnaks for all of your suggestions...
