AI'm doing 100 cupcakes for a friend's wedding and she offered to give me a deposit so I'm going to take her up on it, but it got me thinking, how do you handle payment?

Do you allow the customer to pay when they pick up? In advance? Half down, half when order is picked up?

If you require a deposit, for what size order?

Half as a retainer or full amount, depends on total. Balance due 3 weeks prior to event.

It also depends on the total as well. Big orders (over $100) then 50% deposit. Under $100 I require payment in full

Great advice above. If there's no deposit or payment in advance, customers can cancel without letting you know. "Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself."
