I am not sure how to price this cake. I have tried using the matrix but I can't figure out the ones I've seen. This is the first cake I've made that I am going to have to price. I'm going to use a 10" square for bottom, an 8" square for middle, and I bought a pyrex bowl to make the ladybug. Plan on using fondant for the ladybug on the top of the cake. Of course the dots on the sides of the cakes are going to be fondant. The smash cake is going to be a 6" round cake. I may make this cake as a single layer but would like to know your input. Please let me know how you would price this cake and all your input.

 

I would like to know how you would make the #1 that is on these cakes. I really like them. Don't know if you can buy them like this or make.

I can't help you with the pricing, but as to the numbers on the cakes:  Roll a snake of half fondant-half gumpaste, free form your number and let it dry hard. While it's still soft, insert a lollipop stick or small skewer into it to stick into your cake later. Give it a couple of days to dry hard enough to hold its shape while standing.

What kind of help are you looking for? Jason's blog is clear, straightforward, and free. Many CC members use CakeBoss software; and my first book Start & Run a Home-Based Food Business explains how to calculate ingredient costs and then how to price all products (not just cakes). But both of these other options are not free. If you want members to give you a price that you can put on your cake, their input is just a guess. Which (in the long run) is a shortcut and not helping you.

We can't tell you what to charge.  We have no idea what your ingredient costs are, your electric/gas bill rates are, what sort of hourly wage you must have for yourself, nor do we know the costs of your License, Insurance and other permits you might have to get in your local area.

That would only work if the business owner happened to be in the business's target market, in many businesses this is not the case.

This approach wouldn't work for me, as I don't really care about cake and I wouldn't pay what I WOULD charge if I DID charge, LOL.
