AI need to make a police hat topper for a cake and am not sure of the best way to do it. Should I model the whole thing out or rice Krispy treats? Not sur hoe else to get the right shape....any suggestions on something to use as a mold?
I think you could do it from Rice Krispy Treats or you could do it from cake. If you do if from cake, you'll want the cake to be really firm because you'll need to carve it to get it to be the right shape. I found this link to a policeman hat that looks awesome and appears to be shaped from cake.
ATry this link, it's a tutorial on how to make the hat: http://dirdydiary.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-super-amateur-attempt-at-making.html?m=1 HTH
@Omas That's a great tutorial! I hope it helps.
AI thought it was good and hope it helps too! Maybe we'll get some pictures of the finished product from pipesqueak. Mari
AThanks everyone, I think I'll probably end up using rice Krispy treats. I don't think it will be large enough to use cake....I love having the pics in these tutorials ....it helps me a lot with what it should look like...
Got the cake made - here's a picture. I did rice krispy treats with modeling chocolate and fondant. It wasn't quite as smooth as I would have liked but the customers and their guests loved it so that's what counts.
