AI am in search of a good vanilla cake recipe. I have found a few from scratch that were ok but I was not blown away with the flavor. They do not have a bad flavor but are just kinda bland and do not scream vanilla cake to me. The one that I like the most so far is one I found on allrecipes called David's yellow cake which I added sour cream to. It is moist and ok but I do not feel like it is as good as I would like it to be. I was hoping that someone might have tips on how to make this recipe better?
Personally, I think vanilla cakes taste better when they use yolks AND whites, as opposed to just one or the other. Also I have not tried this, but have read that vanilla paste gives a much better taste than using vanilla extract. Maybe try that?
I really like Toba Garrett's moist yellow cake. Tasty, light texture, and not at all dry. I tried so many different recipes until I found this one. I use full fat Bulgarian style buttermilk, as fat adds moisture.

I too tried many white cake recipes and wasn't satisfied with any of them. Some were ok but didn't have the great flavor that I was looking for. After finding this recipe on CC, I fell in love with it. ..so much that I can sit and eat it without any frosting or filling...its that good on its own. Hope you like it as much as I do.

AThank you! I will give this one a try as well! I like that you can make it a white cake too. I absolutely LOVE that WASC cake but am afraid that I will not be able to get a suitable box mix in the future. If I were able to find a scratch recipe that I like just as well that would be amazing. Thanks so much!
I'm going to second the toba garret yellow. This is what I use and love it. To get a real vanilla-y flavor I also add the scrapings of one or two vanilla bean(s)
