ADoes anyone charge per cake instead of per serving?

AYes, for single tier cakes.

I charge $30 for a 6" round 4 layer simply decorated.

AWe also charge flat rates for single tier cakes, since most people shopping for single tier cakes are expecting a flat price. Our starting prices are $44 for 8" round, $54 for 10" round, $69 for 12" round, and $119 for half sheet (all 2 layers).

Ahaving problem with my prizes, first people, complained my cakes are too cheap, mean friends, though I noticed, but thought am still getting to have customers and now it was increased by 20percent and now most of my customers, new once though, prize and since they don't get to my prize, don't bake with me,saying its too expensive,of which in cake shops already with names its cost more to buy.. I make home made cakes...

I charge $30 for a 6" and $50 for an 8" cake. Anything bigger than that is considered custom and are charged per a serving.

I charge $35 for a 6", $45 for an 8", and $65 for a 10". The 10" is usually WELL decorated, though, with 3D figures and whatnot.  When I do an 8" topped by a 6" decorated, it's $85-$90.

Do any of you have a minimum $ order?  If you're charging a flat rate, it would seem that some of the cakes are barely profitable.  It would be for me, anyway.

AOur minimum order is $44 for a basic 8" cake, that price supports a wage of $15/hour (plus commercial kitchen rent) and a markup of 20% for profit.

AI was looking for help on this to. I just got new pans (newbie =) ) so the 6in says 8 sev. This can't be right? I live in the south of mississippi you give some one that small of a bite at a birthday lol. So I don't price by serv but by cake I do a one layer 1/2 sheet for 50. I'm real geting up business. I would say my prices are about the same as above. I droped from aoccount school to be at home with the kids so I appiled this to the cakes. Took a few recipes and prices each componant then the pakageing and 10 to 15 an hr for time needed to make and finish the cake.

ADebbie are you starting up a cake shop in ms or just from here? I just started selling cakes.. been bakeing for people for a min. Like you buy this and sure ill make it. Now I'm looking in to the laws and permints. I'm happy we will soon have the cottage law. But I want to sale my cheesecakes to. Its my number one request. I my self have a hard time chargeing someone to dosomething so easy to myself. But its aparent they can't make a cake or cheese cake or even make it look good. Go fig. I've always found it easy minus anglefood. I'm going to master that one day and creamcheese icing (always to runny). But anyhow wheere are you if you in ms? I'm in hattiesburg. Seems to be a lost art here. Walmart and other stores mostly. What about the rest of the world?
