I saw Ron Ben Israel use another method to stack his cakes. He puts a dowel rod equal the heights of all the cake into the cake board. Then he stack the cakes. I assume each tier has a tiny whole in the centre to go through the dowel rod.

My question, how does he get the long dowel rod attach to the cake board befrore stacking. Does he hot glue it. Any suggestions?

Hi majormichel

Drill a hole through the bottom cake board first, then insert the centre dowel into the hole and use hot glue to keep it in place. Yes, cake boards on the upper tiers all have holes drilled through the base aswell.

Cris.

Further to Princesscris response, after you drill a hole the same size as your dowl in the bottom board, flip it over and hot glue a smaller board to the underside of the board, ie if your cake is going on a 14" board, glue on a 10" or 12" board. Turn the board back over and you will have a hole with a base to put your hot glue into, then put your dowl in the hole.  It is great, there is no way the tiers will separate or move sideways while it is being transported and the under board raises the cake off the table which lets you get your fingers underneath to pick it up without damaging the board.
