I am making cake for a wedding reception. The couple was married a couple months ago in a destination wedding and are just having their reception in a month. The bride has given me carte blanche on flavour, filling and design.  Her only requirement is that it be a non-fondant cake...she likes my buttercream cakes. So, I am completely over whelmed and don't know what to do for cake/filling.  I know that I will be making buttercream ruffles for the outside and I actually may make 3 normal sized cakes with complimentary designs instead of a traditional tiered cake. I would absolutely love to hear your favourite cake/filling combos.... and even a recipe or two to test out if you have one to share :)

I really love Toba Garret's lemon-coconut cake, I make an Italian meringue buttercream for the filling and add some of the lemon curd (made to put in the cake itself) in the buttercream too. That's one of my favorites...you can search for the cake recipe online.
