AWhen using Rice Krispies Treats to make a fondant figure, how long do you have to let it dry/harden before you can put the royal icing layer on?

Is there anything else instead of royal icing that can be used to smooth the RKT before adding the fondant?

Any other tips are appreciated. I am making Russian nesting dolls. The largest one is about 3.25 inches tall.

Thank you!

AI might be mistaken and hopefully someone chimes in if I'm wrong but I think I read on here that you can use chocolate over RKT to smooth it out.

AOh, I hope so, because I have some melted chocolate on the stove that I was just abut to get rid of. That would be perfect. I don't have the royal icing made yet.

AThe chocolate worked great. It wasn't smooth, though, so I sanded it this morning. You can read my post here about that if interested. http://cakecentral.com/t/758267/food-safe-sander-chocolate-dust#post_7392816
