ARecently recieved a request for a 3d teddy bear. I know different markets have different pricing but what is a fair per serving price for a carved cake? Just looking for a starting point....thanks in advance:)

I have either a $175 or $200 minimum for 3-D cakes, I can never remember which...I have to go look on my website every time to check. The cost of the time it takes to make them is the deciding factor for that type of cake, not the cost of materials or the serving count.

AAgree with CostumeCzar. For me, it also depends on time. Are you using the bear cake pan? I charge much less for that than a cake I really have to carve.

I start with the base price of the cake (depends on size, flavor, & filling). Then, I add $25-50 per hour it will take me to carve. I base te price on the difficulty. I touch it with a knife $25 an hour - carve in all the many directions $50/hr.

Exactly...and if you don't have a minimum you'll get people saying "oh, $8 a serving? I only need 5 servings."

Thanks SO much for your input. Here is the cake,it wound up being a "gift". I carved it from 6" and 4" rounds using bake-a-boo's online tutorial. I'm in the process of putting together my price structure since my state just passed a CFL. You're input was definately an eye opener! I definately need to start to value my time and talent more? Thanks again so much for your input
