How can I make Butter cream frosting hold up to Georgia heat. need it to stay firm on cupcakes in 80+ degree heat.

You can use http://highratioshortening.com/high-ratio-shortening-for-buttercream-icing.  I live in Florida and it works well during the summer months.

AI'm from GA! Now, we live in Charleston.

The high ratio shortening helps. I use a butter & shortening buttercream. Still, no buttercream (even just shortening) will last long in the GA summer heat. Please, please don't let anyone talk you into providing a cake or cupcakes for an outdoor event May-August. For outdoor events, I insist in using fondant.
