Hi!  I would price it like you price a cake - cost of ingredients, plus labor, plus overhead and profit.  At the very least, If one peony took you an hour, I would figure the cost of the ingredients plus one hour of a living wage for you.  Why would anyone expect you to make less??

It is beautiful, by the way!

ADo you think your time is worth $7/hr? Well, I gues it's really more like $5.50/hr.

I don't know if my copying and pasting will work but I thought this might help you. I don't make my own flowers I buy them. Most of these flowers are white, so it takes additional time to color them. It gives you an idea of what the cheapest wholesale source sells flowers for. You'd have to look at them to compare your quality verses theirs....to decide if you should ask more or less money for each one.

Sorry, my cut and paste cut things off a little. But you can still look at the per box price and the quantity per box to figure out what the cost was.

I charge $40 for a large peony, open or closed. I figure the cost in time and materials are about the same for doing a closed center and an open one. Each one includes 2 buds, leaves and a few filler flowers.

Just because someone can't afford or see the value in a $10 peony, doesn't mean you are priced too high . . . it just means they won't be buying one.  Move on with confidence!

ASo true! I charge $25-30 for large peonies. Many people opt for real to lower costs. That's fine with me.

I charge $25-$40 for my peonies depending on the number and the size. I'm fairly quick with them and I absolutely love them!! I have three brides this summer using them on their cakes and all of them got to hold an actual gum paste peony. I think when they get to see the beauty up-close, they see the value. All of them even asked how long does it take me. I even tell them that it can be a keepsake from their wedding cake. The color may fade but as long as they keep it out of moisture, it will be great for years. I feel like if I were to just tell someone how much a peony costs, they wouldn't appreciate it. I either show them a picture or let them hold one. HTH!

Peonies are a statement flower. All you need is one or 2. The way I sell them, with buds, leaves and filler flowers, you can decorate a mid-sized tiered cake with just one. I'm also experienced and my skill level justifies the price. Three years ago, I wouldn't have been able to sell a peony for anywhere near that much icon_smile.gif.

AI charge $38 per peony in my Etsy shop, and i sell a decent number of them. Just because one lady thought $10 was too much doesn't mean that it is! If you spent an hour on one you need to figure out how much the materials cost and how much you want to earn per hour. The person who said that a $7 flower equals about $5.50 an hour is probably right, if not being generous!

Just a comparison, my local florist sells really good looking fake flowers and they are $15.00 per stem. You'd be silly to put all that love and labor into a sugar flower and sell it cheaper then a plastic one.

you all are sooooo right!

Moving with confidences is hard, but experiences will help eventually..

Do you dust the petals before putting together everything or when it's done?

It's easier to dust them before they're assembled.

I didn't see you mention  wholesalesugarflowers.com  They have the best prices all around!  Peonies are only 24.99 for a box of 9 extra large ones.  They have great customer service too.   The often give out 10% off coupons if you subscribe to their mailing list.

They have the biggest selection of Gumpaste and Royal Icing Flowers I have come across.
