Does anyone here charge an extra fee for designing a new cake concept for clients, specifically brides, that have already secured a design, deposit, and contract? If so is this stated in your contract and do charge your hourly rate or a flat rate?

ANo. Brides change their minds especially when they book early. I did once have a ridiculous bride that wanted many designs. Now, I have a section dedicated to her. "While we encourage brides to reserve their date, it is best to schedule your consultation once you have decided on some of the reception details. It is easier to choose your design once you have made these decisions; Otherwise, you may need a second consultation. Additional consultations are billed $30 per hour (minimum one hour) and do not include samples."

AI also have a clause which states "any & all changes must be made within 30 days of the event."

AAnother approach is to incorporate the cost of the redesign into the price of the new cake. So if the cake is for 150 people and the price for the redesigned cake would normally be $4/serving, you could charge $4.25/serving instead to account for the additional time spent.

Thanks for the responses!

I also have the same clause that changes and final details must be made before 30 days. I try to make sure they have at least a basic concept before they come in for a tasting as I design their cake during the tasting. When they book with me they get a formal sketch of their cake design. This is the first year we have had a few brides come back and want new designs or brand new orders all together. I really don't have the time with the current brides that I already have the work to do for. I figured a fee would act as sort of a deterrent from changing their minds and if they did my time would be validated.
