It turned out great! I really like your mud effect. What size is your base cake? Any construction tips?
AThanks! I thinned the icing a bit and splattered it on the wedding cake by flicking it on a silicone spatula, so much fun! the wedding cake is a 6", 8", 10". the tire is a thick (4 cups of batter) 10" round cut in half, on a 13x9" base. My only note would be that I stacked the tire on its base cake on site (seams covered by the mud) to keep it from toppling in the car- it seemed pretty sturdy once i got it put together, it probably would have been fine to ride stacked, but i was nervous.
Aoh, when I cut the 10" round in halves and stood them up (pan sides together, icing between), I didn't have any trouble with them trying to fall away from each other before i covered the 'tire' with fondant. no dowels needed. :)
TasteAndSee, i'm sorry I haven't been on in a while and i'm just now seeing your post. they are on the way.
ARothells, could you message me on how you did the construction for the tire as well?
AI was just asked to do this same cake! It is definitely popular! If you could email me those details also I would be very greatful! [email protected]
AI was asked to do this cake for my sisters wedding and would love any tips for the tire portion.
What did you use to make the tire treads? Fondant? RKT? Trying to decide what would be better to make the raised pattern. Any tips or details you can share will be appreciated. :-)
