I'm making a two tier round cake for a christening 50-70 people. According to the Wilton site, a 12' and 8' will give me 80 slices. Do you think I'm cutting it a bit short, should I go larger? Also how accurate is the Wilton guide?
AHere is s tread where they talk about how much cake to make. I didn't read the whole thread just the first page. Somewhere in the threads there was a lady who made a paper cake dummy slice for her customers but of course I can't find that thread. The wilton chart is suppose to be pretty accurate however I believe and its just my personal opinion that people who have no idea on what size to cut the slices tend to cut larger sizes than what the wilton chart suggest.
Hi! My experience with servings is (a) the number of people invited is always considerably more than the number of people who actually show up and (b) there are always people in the crowd who are on a diet or who don't like cake (GASP!) or have some other reason they don't take a slice. I think you're fine with the sizes you are contemplating. Plus...bumping up another size...by the time you multiply the larger size times the number of layers...makes for a LOT more cake. Just be sure they understand that they should serve conservative slices rather than big ol' hunky slabs. :)
The catering hall will actually do the cutting of the cake, and will be at least 4' high per tier.
