I just joined this board. My daughter wants a dance party and although her party is not until July I'd like to gather some ideas when it comes to her cake. I want to add a disco ball to her cake and some dancer silhouettes. I have a couple of templates I can use but I have no idea how to make them to go on a cake. I need help!!! I don't want to let her down! What do you guys use to make the dancers silhouette?
i would get some black fondant from the cake deco store and knead in one of two substances
- tylose also available at same store a teaspoon or two per pound maybe
- cornstarch like 1/3 cup per pound give or take
then knead it in real real good
roll it out maybe 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick and cut your silhouette out with an exacto or whatever
let them dry flat for several days--you should be fine
you could make two thinner ones for each one and splice them together with royal icing or melted chocolate and insert a popsicle stick in there to help it stand up--again let it dry real good--you could either let the edges go as is or pipe around them or apply a ribbon depending on the intricacy of the design--ooohh you could sprinkle the edges with edible glitter too (paint with loosened egg white first and dip in glitter)
how large are your templates?
you good with the disco ball?
Thanks so much for your suggestion! I think I'm good with the disco ball. I just have to decide whether I want to use crispie treats to make it or just get a styrofoam ball and spray paint it.
I've never used tylose beofre. What is it for?
it makes fondant dry hard/crispier--it turns it into a gum paste that dries and holds it's shape well but has stretch (before it dries)
Can you post pics u had? I am doing a cake for my niece and I had similar ideas as you that I am trying to put together. thanks!
