AIntuit (the makers of QuickBooks) have a new service called GoPayment, I haven't tried it but it looks like a good alternative to Square.

What specifically don't you like about Square?

I love Square. Use it at my farmers market and for my cake orders. It works well, the fee is inexpensive and the money is in my account the next business day...what's not to like?

I've been contacted by credit card processors and received offers from Sam's club for credit card processing services but none has been as reasonable as Square.

I love Square.  I use it on my Dessert Truck and hubby uses a second one for our B&B.  It is SO much cheaper than the traditional machine, easy to use, no hidden fees, and the money is in my account right away.

Paypal has a new one too.  I got one, but haven't set it up yet.  Flat percentage of sale fee.

APayPal's solution is called "PayPal Here". Personally I try to avoid using PayPal except as a last resort, since PayPal is not a bank (in the US at least), so it does not have to follow standard banking rules and your accounts can be frozen at any time (e.g. from a customer dispute).

I am dissappointed to see that neither Square nor Intuit work with the Windows phone.  I had hoped to start using this app.

Innerfence says they have a reader that works on Windows 8, not sure if it is compatible with Windows phones. It may be a while before the major players have a reader ready for Windows phones since the market is so much smaller than iOS or Android, and the future of Windows phone apps is not very promising.

AThinking of getting iZettle anyone used one?

scrumdiddlycakes Posted 29 Mar 2013 , 6:12pm

I use phoneswipe on my android, used to use square but had some issues with them taking ages to send the money.

This one I can use in Canada as well, none of the others would allow me to do that. (I live in a border town, and am actually Canadian, but a US resident, and have legal businesses on both sides.)

People hate signing with their finger though, spend a few dollars and get a spacial pen, lol, it will also keep your phone a lot cleaner!

Square is supposed to do next day deposit, but that only happened about 50% o the time for me, swipe is 2 business days, and the rate is a little bit lower.

That is odd about Square.  I get my money the very next day as long as the charge happened by 5pm Central time on Thursday (7pm PT).  The only time we ever had a hold was when I processed very large amount ($5000) and had to key it in instead of swiping.  I contacted them;, I filled out an online form and they released it immediately. The money was in my bank the next morning!  I get my Friday Saturday and Sunday money all on Monday morning, never had an issue.  Their rules specifically state that if you key in your transactions you cannot go over $1000 on a single transaction.  If you do the amount is held for 30 days unless you contact them to request release.

Wow...that is good to know...I am in the process of upgrading my phone and I want to use either sqaure or something like that.....

My customers love signing with their fingers.  They think its the coolest thing ever.

DisneyDreamer Posted 30 Mar 2013 , 3:46pm

Thanks everyone for the feed back. Square is okay i just wish i was able to send photos and a itemized receipt without having to take time typing it in while there standing there. I'm going to give the intuit program a go. I can put a photo of the items in ahead of time when it emails them a receipt it send a photo and a list. i can also add in "special"discounts for loyalty cards or promotions.

I do like that if you have a ipad with the square program it has a loyalty program built in.

AFor square users...do you then have another POS system for cash tansactions, do you have them linked? I am moving from an in home by order only business to a store front and want to use the square for credit cards but wondering what to do for cash register receipts, etc.

ellavanilla Posted 2 Apr 2013 , 4:47pm

Im going to check out square. Paypal is still deciding if my account qualifies for a reader. WTH?

leah_s Posted 2 Apr 2013 , 4:49pm

AYou can record cash transactions on Square.

leah_s Posted 2 Apr 2013 , 4:51pm

AYou can also sign up for Square, go to Walgreens and buy the reader. Enter the code in the box and you'll get a credit on your Square account for the price of the reader. You can be up and running really fast.
