AI hope this link will show up. Does anyone have any idea what the ruffles on this cake are made with? My first thought is rice paper, but I'm not sure. The cake being requested is not until October, but I'm feeling stumped here so I'm hoping to get opinions! Thanks!
My very inexperienced guess would be thinly rolled fondant. Can't wait to see what others think.
I think its fondant as well, just made extremely thin by a ball tool.
I've ruled out rice paper or edible image paper because of the rough edges. Edges seem to have been roughly torn or ripped off. The only edible thing I can think of would be Linda's recipe for gumpaste (the creator of the Silhouette cake decorating system). Using her Silhouette printable paper recipe for gumpaste you actually can get it so thin it's just like a piece of paper. Having a brain cramp on her last name. I believe she posts the recipe on her site. Googles Silhouette for cakes and see what you can find.

It is a Maggie Austin cake or a cake in that style. Go to Craftsy.com and take her class. She teaches you how to do this technique.
I say fondant and rolled thru a pasta machine to make it very thin.
My bet is on gum paste. Many of Maggie Austin's flowers are gum paste. Take her class on Craftsy.com. So worth it.
It's fondant rolled through a pasta roller and dragged to get the ragged edge.
