Hi, all,, ive been really interested in making my own for a long time and thought its about time to do it,, although ive done my research but everywhere i look i find different information,,, i know where i can get all my supplies, but im wanting to know which is the best PRINTER and BEST SOFTWARE to do this?? any help would be great!
I have had both Epson and Canon printers, and I like the Canons WAY better than the Epsons. The 2(!) Epsons I had didn't last long and I was constantly fiddling with clogged jets. I have had much less problems with the Canon, but I did find that printing a test sheet (just a one page document I created with blue, red, yellow, and black text) once a week help keep the jets from clogging.
As far as software goes, I find that I like Microsoft Powerpoint the best. Its default slide layout is perfect for my edible image sheets, I already had it, and I know how to use it (reasonably) well.
After major research and comparison, I just picked up the Canon mg5320 for $99 shipped via Walmart. I bought the edible cartridges from tastyfotoart. They are single use but on sale for $29.99. I also bought the 25 sheet frosting sheets and sample pack of edible wafer paper. The wafer paper was expensive for only 5 sheets ($10 shipped) but I only wanted to test it out and not spend a ton on something that is going to sit around for a while. I think frosting sheets will be used for the majority of any printing I do. So for less than $190, I have a full set up ready to go! Just waiting for it to arrive in the mail ;).
I plan to just use photoshop! Good luck!
