This week I've been working on two baby shower cakes. This one is a Gender Reveal cake. It's a hatbox and, btw...it's a girl<G> and right now I am the only one who knows! LOL! Well, till tomorrow!

 

How's it been going with everyone else?

I'm certainly not posting this weeks effort.  I flooded some bickies with royal icing and then tried some brush embroidery.  I watched some great you tube tutorials but do you think I could get the stupid things to look right.  They were sooooooooooooooooooooooo bad that I could only feed them to hubby.  I couldn't even take them to share at my knitting group.  I am stubborn and it took me to the 6th very poor attempt before I gave up.

I've been off to my local cake decorating group today and chocolate was the theme in the the lead up to Easter.  One of our ladies demonstrated chocolates, chocolate baskets, transfers etc and then we got to play.  I would rather play with tempered chocolate than melts so I just watched and talked.

Sunday Morning here, and just waiting for my student to arrive , we are making roses today. 

We had our Cake club meeting this week too, we also had an Easter theme , with a lovely dem of piping and extension work worked on stiffened netting pieces, done by two of our Life Members, it is wonderful watching these old hands at work . 

 

 

I have to decide what I am doing for a Demonstration in a few weeks , I am leaning towards my Rose people at the moment.  One of the other demonstrators has asked me if she can do my version of the peony so I am thinking that the larger flower theme will sort of tie in.  We were just given a vague Mother's day guideline. I am thinking of dressing my Rose Lady in a cute apron .

This was my cake for the week, I wanted to give oriental string work a go and this is a lemon cake.

Next weekend I'm going to an Easter brunch at a friends house so there will be a cake for that.

So what did you think about the string work? I did it for one cake and swear I'll never do it again!

Actually I enjoyed it, but turning the cake upside down so many times played havoc with the fondant. I'm going to stick with ganache rather than bc under my fondant next time. But ill definitely be giving it another go.

This was my entry for the Local Show this year. I got a first with it in the sugar craft novelty section. I also made it into the local paper .

This is my rose people cake , I did this for a Competition a few years ago. I even had my picture in the paper and a little write up about me with it.

Kiki, the lady that taught me does amazing string work , then again she does amazing everything.    I was rather fortunate to have been taught by one of the best when I started.  

 

A couple of the ladies in our club have special turntable that you lock your cake into and it flips it for doing stringwork.

Thanks for sharing ladies. I love all of your cakes!!! The rose people cake is just adorable. The oriental cake is pretty cool. The barbie doll is gorgeous!!! The shower cake is nice with the piping. I need more practice with piping. One day I am just going to practice on the side of cake pan for an hour or two each day till I can do it, hopefully!!!  The orange and blue tier cake is nice also!!!

 

It must be nice to have a cake club meeting and be able to get together with others. Wish we had something like that here in Charleston SC.

I would have thought that Charleston was big enough for a group.  Maybe you could advertise to see it there are other ladies that are interested and take it from there and start you own group.

I have just googled your population and at over 120,000 people if there is not a group somewhere already then you should have no problem starting one.  I live in a small city of about 30,000 and we have one.  There are only about a dozen of us but we meet once a month to share.

We do!! There are ICES meetings & a few other cake clubs. Are you a member of the SC cottage food law FB page?

No I am not a member of the SC cottage food law.  I only do cakes as a hobby. Thanks for the information

I agree, awesome cakes and I wish we had a cake club round here too. I usually do some piping practice on a plate whenever I have some leftover icing.

Thank you !! :) Decorate the cake and the doll sepretly and then put it together. Also, if you are using the wonder mold from wilton the hole in the cake is bigger then the doll pick so add some icing so she does not lean. Good luck!!!!
