I have to make several types of sugar flowers for a cake, one of them is lambs ear.  Are there any suggestions on how to give fondant the appearance of velvet?  Thanks for your help :)

Hi there!

Why don't you buy a piece of fabric and use it ;-)

Get some petal dust or powder food color and a sea sponge from a craft store. You want to add some grain alcohol to the color to make a fairly thick paste and dab it all over. You can make any color, but the trick is to start with a paler base color for the fondant.

Hi Petunia, I am sure that I have seen a spray that gives a velvet effect, you may be able to use this on fondant or gu paste. http://www.bakersville.in/Product_Spary_Chablonge.html Hope this helps.
