So I am jumping on the SMBC bandwagon and will be decorating my first cake with it. I made a trial batch yesterday and loved it! I need to tint it a deep red; how will I achieve this? Americolor? Can I use melted red candy melt? Thanks for your help!
Personally, I wouldn't even attempt to color SMBC any color past a soft pastel. When I need dark colors, I use fondant, period.
But, if you must, I would suggest colorings that are oil based, such as chocolate food coloring, or powdered food coloring.
Agreed. I made a batch once and I can't remember if I wanted a yellow or green color...a really deep one. I used my gels and it didn't color well. It turned into a vomit pea green color. Pretty ugly actually.
