planning to make a cake similar to one in the link : http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Dikd55CA9W4/SHGH59Xn4-I/AAAAAAAABCU/JG7RwXJ7Kak/s400/doctor+coat.jpg.
My challenge is how to go about covering the cake, do i first cover entire cake with the blue layer and afterwards with white?
I will highly appreciate any idea/suggestions especially if you've made this type of cake before.
I haven't made a cake with 2 layers of "clothing", but if I were to make one like that, I wouldn't cover the entire cake in the blue...I would only put the blue where it's required, and then shape and slightly overlap the white over it. Where the collar and lapels slightly curl and overlap, will hide where the blue ends. It might be a bit more fiddly, but that's all part of the fun of decorating.
I don't think a cake with 2 full layers of fondant would be that appealing, unless you made them very thin, and then you will run into other problems, besides the fact that the blue would probably show through the white.
Hi JMO, thanks indeed for your response. I've checked out some video on youtube which shed some light. Just like you suggested, blue layer where required and white covering as necessary. I 'm sure cake will be a success, i will just need a lot of patience i guess.
